“If this measure were to pass as written, it would have a bout a 12.9% drop in sales in the market which would equate to $30 million in tax revenue,” said Mason Tvert, spokesperson for Colorado Leads. He said industry leaders are still opposed to the bill, saying a new color-coded packaging mechanism indicating how potent the products are would be a burden on businesses.

“We’re glad to hear that the sponsors agree that the age limits are inappropriate and would have a negative impact on Colorado, but there are other problematic aspects of this bill. Some packaging requirements would result in the amount of packaging associated with an ounce of marijuana being 56 times greater than it is right now,” said Tvert. “There are also aspects of the bill would create an unprecedented, arbitrary system for indicating potency. These are things that have not been used in other states. They go away from the norm, confuse consumers, it’s gonna cost business significantly, and it could result in people over-consuming more than they are fight now.”
